This wireless WiFi-connected LED bulb can be controlled by a smartphone app, each of which is a computer running the open source Contiki operating system (Thingsquare distribution).
A group of light bulbs form a wireless mesh network (the core guiding principle of Mesh is to allow each node in the network to send and receive signals) and connect to external WiFi signals.
This “smart†light bulb idea was inspired by a conversation at the bar by LIFX CEO Phil Bosua, who started the Kickstarter platform in September 2012 by several other co-founders of Posiva and LIFX. The project raised funds and the company has raised more than $1.31 million, and the team's initial goal was to raise $100,000.
