Japan: City Light Industry develops low-power LED headlamps

City Light Industry has developed low-power LED headlamps for automobiles. Nissan has already equipped the lamp on all models of the electric car "LEAF" (Chinese name: Listening Wind). The number of LEDs is reduced to two, achieving the power consumption of the original HID (high-intensity discharge lamp) 1/2 and twice the life, and reducing the cost by reducing the number of components.

A white light-emitting LED is used as a light source for a headlamp (low beam) that uses a relatively high frequency and is directed downward. In addition to improving the output power of the LED, a reflective (mirror type) structure in which two reflectors are used in combination to control light is used, and the convex lens necessary for the previous LED headlamp is removed, thereby improving light utilization efficiency. Using a precision thermal analysis simulation, the heat dissipation path from the chip to the heat sink is designed.

This will reduce the number of LEDs that require a minimum of three to the same level as the original to be reduced to two. While ensuring 550lm luminous flux, the world's first power-saving performance of only 23W per side after turning on the low beam is realized. Since the halogen lamp is 55W and the HID is 45W, the power consumption of the LED lamp is about 40% and 1/2, respectively. The lower the power consumption, the longer the EV's cruising range can be extended.

The service life is up to 5000 hours, which is twice the HID. The color temperature is 5500K, which is close to natural light and has good visibility. Unlike HID, turning on the lights does not take time. The weight is 30% lighter than the original headlights with 3 LEDs. In addition, since it can be made thinner, the degree of freedom reserved for the design is high. "LEAF" has successfully reduced wind noise and air resistance by improving the shape of the headlights so that the rear view mirror does not obstruct the oncoming wind.

Shiguang Industrial has set up a dedicated production line for LED headlamp units with an annual production capacity of 500,000 units at Isehara Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and has started mass production. In the future, the company will continue to promote the development of high-beam headlights (uplighted headlights) and low-beam LED light source integrated units, and low-beam lights using only one LED, and further promote automotive headlamps. LEDized.
