Hitachi develops linear white LED lighting fixtures (figure)

Hitachi Lighting has developed the linear white LED lighting device "LINESABER", which will be available from July 2008 (Figure 1). The optical flux is 140 lm at a rated input power of 7 W and 70 lm at a rated input power of 5 W. By applying the light guide plate technology used in the liquid crystal panel backlight, it is possible to emit uniform light in a line. Compared with lighting fixtures that use fluorescent lamps, they consume less power and have a larger form factor. The company said that the average illumination of a lighting fixture using a 10W fluorescent lamp at a rated input power of 13W is 199lx, while the LINESABER input of 7W can achieve a 208lx average. Illumination, therefore, can reduce power consumption by about 1/2 (illuminance is the average value of the 50 cm position from the light source and 40 cm) (Fig. 2).

The LINESABER is 300mm long by 16.8mm wide by 16.3mm high. The package area is reduced to about 1/3, the height is reduced to about 1/5, and the volume is reduced to about 1/18 compared to when a fluorescent lamp is used. The rated life is 40,000 hours, which is about 7 times that of a product using the same fluorescent lamp. This product is a lighting fixture that is mainly used in a place where a small casing is used, such as a lamp for illuminating a product such as a store, and a guide lamp attached to a step and an armrest.

For the suggested retail price, 7W products are 27,300 yen, and 5W products are 24,150 yen. The price includes a circuit module that drives an LED lighting fixture with an AC power source. The product that emits ordinary white light is a standard product, but it is also possible to produce a calender color product after increasing the color temperature and a warm white product after the red color.

Use the light guide to solve all problems

The biggest technical feature of LINESABER is that white LEDs are arranged at both ends or one end of the housing, and the light emitted by the light guide plate is uniformly diffused to the entire surface of the casing, and the light path is changed in order to emit light from the surface of the casing (Fig. 3). . Originally, linear LED lighting fixtures arranged a plurality of white LEDs in a straight line at regular intervals. Therefore, although it is linear, the white LED is very conspicuous, and it seems to be "one grain and one grain", it is difficult to uniformly irradiate, and it is also susceptible to the unevenness of brightness and hue between the respective white LEDs (Fig. 4). Although arranging white LEDs at narrow intervals can alleviate these phenomena, this in turn increases component costs. The company said that this problem can be completely solved by arranging white LEDs on the end faces and using the light guide plate to diffuse light uniformly.
