Alpha Data is a company that specializes in the design and delivery of high-performance FPGA development platforms for data centers and cloud servers for heavy data calculation and communication tasks. Earlier, the company introduced an ADM-PCIE-8K5 PCIe accelerator board. Now let's review what features this FPGA board has.
The ADM-PCIE-8K5 PCIe Accelerator Board is primarily used in X86 and IBM Power 8/9 data centers and cloud servers. It is the brainchild of the company's more than 20 years of design experience, along with the world's leading programmable logic. The complete solution provider Xilinx is working closely together. This board is based on the Xilinx Kintex UltraScale KU115 FPGA, which is a well-known "DSP Resource Monster" with a total of 55,520 DSP48E2 slices on-chip resources, in addition to 1451,000 system logic units and 75.9 Mbit BRAM storage space. This board supports the Xilinx SDAccel development environment, which means engineers can use OpenCL, C, C++ for system development, and can also use the XiLx Vivado HLx tool to use the HDL language and follow the HLS (High Level Synthesis) design flow.
This board integrates two independent DDR4-2400 SDRAM channels, a pair of SFP+ fiber-optic communication interfaces, which can provide dual 10G Ethernet communication capabilities, and also integrates two FireFly Micro Flyover I/O expansion ports developed by Samtec. For data communication between boards (4x 16Gbps per connector), and finally a USB port for system monitoring and JTAG debugging.

Recently, Alpha Data has launched the CAPI specification accelerated development kit for this board. CAPI, the "coherent additional processor interface", belongs to the high-speed data communication interface design, used for communication between the hardware accelerator board (here, ADM-PCIE-8K5 as an example) and the server processor. The CAPI interface specification is composed of The OpenPOWER organization was designed and implemented for post-maintenance. The development kit from Alpha Data includes the PSL (Power Service Layer) feature that provides infrastructure connectivity to each module, such as the POWER8 chip, user-defined AFU (Accelerator Functional Unit), and CAPI-compliant OS (Operation System) kernel extensions and various function libraries.
The accelerator board with integrated CAPI features locks the memory space on the server side and works like a server processor. This greatly reduces the communication delay between the hardware accelerator and the server, which is significantly better than the traditional communication protocol. Andrew McCormick, technical director at Alpha Data, said the solution significantly improved performance per watt of power.
Finally, this board will also be unveiled at the recent ISC High Performance Computing Summit in Germany, so stay tuned!
