BMW plans to use solid-state batteries in next-generation electric vehicles

According to foreign media reports, one of the concerns in the development of electric vehicles is solid-state batteries. Obviously, BMW is also concerned because it is cooperating with solid EV battery manufacturing startup Solid Power. Solid Power announced that in the future it will cooperate with BMW to provide an important role for the future development of electric vehicles. BMW hopes to increase the EV performance to a suitable level with Solid Power's solid-state battery.

However, BMW did not disclose which models will use the battery, and it did not disclose the amount of funds used for the deal with Solid Power and when it was launched.

Solid-state batteries, by definition, are batteries that rely on solid-state electrolytic cells for power. Its advantage is that it can reduce the incidence of battery overheating and it also has a higher energy density. At present, the main drawback is that the cost is too high.

In fact, Solid Power is not the only company that is developing solid-state batteries. Toyota is also developing its own solid-state battery. The company hopes to launch an electric vehicle using solid-state batteries by 2022.
