The level of CO2 in a building has an important impact on the health of people living and working in it. This fact has been recognized and valued by more and more people. Because even a small amount of carbon dioxide level (such as an increase of 500 PPM indoors) will cause people to yawn and sleepy.
After realizing the harmful effects of high levels of CO2 on health, HVAC or indoor air quality (IAQ) systems are increasingly incorporating CO2 sensors as control systems to control air changes by reducing the need for CO2 levels.
We are all becoming more aware of the harmful effects of rising carbon dioxide levels on our health. For this reason, it is also necessary to monitor the air quality in buildings and enclosed spaces. By increasing the CO2 sensor to monitor the CO2 concentration in work and residential settings, in addition to maintaining human health and providing productivity, the improvement of efficiency and the rise of energy costs are also key market drivers.
As an integral part of your HVAC or air quality monitoring system, GSS's carbon dioxide sensor provides a reliable early warning of rising CO2 levels. Thanks to the fact that the sensors are low-power enough to operate on battery power, wireless HVAC and air quality systems are now a very easy reality. There is no need to worry about wire routing problems, the system can be quickly installed in any required area. Your system can even be a portable, handheld or wearable instrument, because the COZIR-LP is a miniature sensor suitable for very compact product definitions.
However, installing CO2 monitors throughout a building can be expensive because of the amount of cabling required to provide the power they require. Due to the cost of redecorating after cable installation, the installation cost of existing buildings is even greater. Schneider Electric and Gas Sensing Solutions (GSS) have collaborated to reduce the need for power and related installation costs. The solution is a CO2 monitor that can be battery powered for up to 10 years.
Typical Case:
GSS worked closely with Schneider to create a customized CO2 sensor to meet their high precision and low power requirements. Schneider's new intelligent building control monitor not only measures CO2, but also measures temperature and humidity. The data is sent through wireless transmission, so there is no need for any wire to supply power. Since the location of the monitor can be changed quickly and easily, even if the office layout needs to be changed, there is no need to re-wiring and redecorating.
GSS technology
Non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) spectrometers are often used to detect gases and measure the concentration of carbon oxides (such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide). An infrared beam passes through the sampling cavity, and each gas component in the sample absorbs infrared rays of a specific frequency. By measuring the infrared absorption of the corresponding frequency, the concentration of the gas component can be determined. The CO2 concentration value is calculated by how much light of the 4.2-4.4 micron wavelength of the sample gas is absorbed by the CO2 molecules in the sample gas, thereby making a CO2 sensor.
The uptake indicates how much carbon dioxide is present. GSS has developed dedicated light-emitting diodes specifically tuned to emit at these wavelengths. The LED uses a very small power and almost starts to work when it is powered, so that the sensor reading can be output in less than one second. Therefore, GSS pioneered the development of CO2 sensors, which can be battery-powered for up to ten years. Competitor sensors use IR sources, each measurement requires more power, and it also takes longer to reach the stability of the measured value, thereby generating the need for power.
GSS's solid-state CO2 sensors have been successfully used in the air quality and HVAC markets for more than a decade. Typical applications provided include: solutions for IOT (Internet of Things) projects; health and safety measures in schools; air quality management in homes; DCV (demand controlled ventilation) and "smart building" projects in offices; and wearables in bars Security solutions.
Shenzhen Gongcai.com has a 10-year cooperative relationship with GSS, and currently acts as an agent for all GSS products. The COZIR-LP for ultra-low power consumption occasions is a new product in 2016, with a very small size of 31mm * 19.5mm * 8mm, extremely low power consumption, 3.0mW (the power consumption value at the operating frequency of two readings per second).
