The Western World is coming: Robotics learns to collaborate in its own language

(Reporter Liu Xia) According to a report recently published by the British “Isle of Independents”, the latest report published by the artificial intelligence research team OpenAI indicates that robots have learned to use their own new language to communicate and collaborate to complete tasks.

Experts at OpenAI conducted an experiment that allowed some software robots to perform a series of tasks, such as moving to a specific location in a simple two-dimensional virtual world. Moreover, they use enhanced learning techniques to allow software robots to complete challenges in a collaborative, rather than competitive, manner and to provide rewards to those robots that complete their mission.

The OpenAI team wrote on the blog: "In the experiment, we put artificial intelligence robots into a simple world, taught them to create a language, gave them the ability to communicate, and then let them communicate with other robots to complete the task. If they complete a certain task, they will be rewarded."

The results of the research show that robots will continue to try and remember mistakes, remember those symbols, words, and signals that can help them accomplish a certain task, and store this information in their own recurrent neural networks, thus learning to cooperate and communicate with each other.

The researchers pointed out: "If a robot realizes that the second robot sends other information to help it perform its tasks better, then this robot will accurately tell the second robot how to modify the information to make this information as useful as possible. In other words, these robots are asking how to improve their "language" to get the most collective reward.

As the tasks proposed by the researchers continue to increase, the language evolved. In the end, robots learned to work together by communicating with each other using different word constituent sentences.

As the language continues to evolve and become more and more complex, researchers hope to build a translation robot that translates their interactions with humans.
